| Nuetering cats, dogs, and other animals? |
Question: Assalamualaikum Warahmatullah Wabarakat May Allah reward you and may He always be pleased with you, Shaykh. I have a female cat, 8 1/2 months old who is now old enough to have kittens (I have no other cats). I wish to keep her from having kittens by neutering her for many reasons. First of all, If she does have kittens, I would not be able to keep them due to apartment restrictions and the objection of my parents. Also, If I were to give them away, I would always feel guilty of the possibility of one of them being given away from hand to hand until it eventually ends up at a city center that would euthanize it, something abundantly common due to "over-population" of cats. This is my strongest reason for wanting this for my cat. Second, a more secondary and possibly selfish reason. I wish to alleviate the pain she feels every couple of months when in heat. After seeing a cat crying and rolling around on the floor, it is obvious to see they are uncomfortable. Is it wrong to have your cat neutered? JazakAllah Khair Answer: Nuetering cats is permissible as long as the process does not harm them, as this is better than euthanising any kittens it may have given birth to.
