Question:

What is the right islamic way of marraige (nikah), is the wali required and what if there is no wali for the girl?

Answer:

Marriage in Islam consists of 4 conditions: Offer and acceptance, Dower, Wali (guardian) and 2 witnesses. Once these 4 conditions are satisfied then the marriage is correct. Getting married however, could happen in different ways and there is no specifc correct way. The Messenger Sallallahualaihi Wasallam was proposed to (Khadijah) , ordered to propose to (Aishah and Zainab), proposed himself to (Hafsah). Sometimes the family suggests a girl to their son, he sees her and eventually they get married. Sometimes the person from himself likes a woman and then decides to tell his family before or after he tells the girl. So there are many ways to get married and there are factors detirmine whether the approach was correct or not. Involvement of the family is very helpful in our time and highly recommened though.
